Water Weight

A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?”
Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.
She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”
It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!

Superbowl Tips
I read this today and wanted to share it. I so agree!
Today is Super Bowl Sunday. No matter which team you are rooting for, I’d like you to consider this scenario….
Your team is driving for the end zone with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The score is tied. They are on the 10 yard line and the camera zooms in on the quarterback’s face. Suddenly, he smiles and turns to his defensive linemen and says, “You know, we’ve done a pretty amazing job this game to get to this point. We overcame a lot of challenges and look at us now. I think we are close enough to our goal, so let’s just relax, leave the ball here, and go celebrate and have some fun.”

Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Yet I can’t tell you how often I see that happen after someone achieves amazing results. They lose 25, 50, 75 pounds or more, and then stop just 10 or 15 pounds from a healthy weight. Once they have stopped that forward progress and give up short of their goal, it usually means that they are headed back in the other direction.
In life, not just the Super Bowl, it’s about always making forward progress toward our goals. When we stop short of our goals, it’s hard to get back on track!
There will always be events and celebrations that pop up. If you are prepared for these special functions, you will find it much easier to stick to your health goals. Here are some tips for you to follow:

Project: Reward Marbles
I think we can all agree that health does not depend solely on the number on the scale. If you choose to create health in your life, you should focus on creating your healthy body, mind, emotions, spirit and finances. All of those things are interdependent. When we focus on only reaching our healthy weight, without regard to the reasons we got into the position we're in, we cannot truly be healthy.
One of my clients is on her journey to health and needed a good visual of all the things she was accomplishing to give her a little boost in her journey. Most of us have seen the "Pounds Lost/ Pounds to Lose" jars. For every pound you lose, you move a marble from the "Pounds to Lose" jar into the "Pounds Lost" jar. They look like this:
Those jars are a good idea, but I have a hard time accepting that our only goal is to lose pounds. Instead, shouldn't we focus on all of our healthy accomplishments?
One of my clients was struggling with focusing only on the scale and not on all the other healthful things she was doing. I gave her an assignment and here is what my client created:

New feature on my blog!
I've added a tab to the top of my blog called "Links and Resources." (Click here) I added all my blog recipes, the Restaurant Guide and some other helpful links like a BMI calculator.
I am constantly adding restaurants to the Restaurant Guide, so check back often. If you have a favorite restaurant you would like to have added to the Restaurant Guide, email me and I will review the menu and add it to the Guide. (I just added Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and Sayler's).
Email me with any questions at HealthyandFitLife@gmail.com.

Restaurant Guide (Health program approved!)
Let's face it, we all like to eat at restaurants. If we choose to eat healthfully, we typically opt for the safe choice -- a salad. Salads are a great choice, especially if you don't want to spend 30 minutes dissecting the menu. If you choose a salad, you should beware of the common salad pitfalls: cheese and salad dressing. Request your server leave off the cheese and request a low-fat dressing or Italian dressing.
Salad isn't your only choice though! Here are some alternate menu choices that also follow the health program I am a health coach for:
