Meal Planning Tip

A lot of people struggle with meal planning, but most know it is necessary to sustain healthy living.  One issue that I used to run into was not having time to make the meal I planned, resulting in a quick, unhealthy meal out of convenience and the necessity to make it through my hectic schedule.

If you struggle with that, you might try what I did:

Water Weight

This made me think about the Physical burden of weight that we carry. We have SUCH an AMAZING gift to share with people.

--A psychologist walked around a room while teaching stress management to an audience. As she raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the “half empty or half full” question. Instead, with a smile on her face, she inquired: “How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my arm. If I hold it for a day, my arm will feel numb and paralyzed. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.” She continued, “The stresses and worries in life are like that glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and they begin to hurt. And if you think about them all day long, you will feel paralyzed – incapable of doing anything.”

It’s important to remember to let go of your stresses. As early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don’t carry them through the evening and into the night. Remember to put the glass down!

Superbowl Tips

I read this today and wanted to share it.  I so agree!

Today is Super Bowl Sunday. No matter which team you are rooting for, I’d like you to consider this scenario….

Your team is driving for the end zone with 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The score is tied. They are on the 10 yard line and the camera zooms in on the quarterback’s face. Suddenly, he smiles and turns to his defensive linemen and says, “You know, we’ve done a pretty amazing job this game to get to this point. We overcame a lot of challenges and look at us now. I think we are close enough to our goal, so let’s just relax, leave the ball here, and go celebrate and have some fun.”

Sounds crazy, doesn’t it? Yet I can’t tell you how often I see that happen after someone achieves amazing results. They lose 25, 50, 75 pounds or more, and then stop just 10 or 15 pounds from a healthy weight. Once they have stopped that forward progress and give up short of their goal, it usually means that they are headed back in the other direction.

In life, not just the Super Bowl, it’s about always making forward progress toward our goals. When we stop short of our goals, it’s hard to get back on track!

There will always be events and celebrations that pop up. If you are prepared for these special functions, you will find it much easier to stick to your health goals. Here are some tips for you to follow:

Balance: My Top Five Life Changes After Creating Health

"It's not about the food!" I've said it a million times, but last night, on my call with my coach (yes, I still talk with my coach weekly to keep myself on track), I said it again - many times - as I was recounting some of the fabulous things I have learned while on my health program.

I think the most important of all is the confidence and empowerment I have gained in really embracing the habits of health for my mind.  I cannot tell you the impact it can have when you fully embrace putting your mind's health first.  I have totally reorganized my points-of-view about life with balance.

Here are just a few of the changes:

Decisions are tough!

My journey is full of tears and rough choices...  when I decided I needed to get healthy, I hurt.  I hurt physically, I hurt mentally.  I hurt.  Period.
On the outside, I smiled.  I told people I was on the see-food diet (I see food, I eat it).  When others around me decided to get healthy and offered me the opportunity, I told them I was happy where I was and joked that I was happier to eat what I wanted.  I wished I had what they had -- the determination, will power and escape route.  I thought a thin, healthy me just wasn't in the cards.
