August's health challenge was inspired by this quote:
"Water is life's mater and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water."
~Albert Szent-Gyorgi (Hungarian Biochemist who won a Nobel Peace Prize in medicine in 1937)~

Here is August's health challenge:

Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of water each day
(and a minimum of 64 ounces of water).

Here is how you calculate the amount of water you should drink:

Your weight: 200 lbs.
Half of your body weight: 100 lbs.
Amount of water you should drink: 100 ounces

Your weight: 120 lbs.
Half of your body weight: 60 lbs.
Amount of water you should drink: 64 ounces (minimum amount of water is always 64 ounces, regardless of your weight)

Water was always the hardest part of getting healthy for me.  It seems so simple, but I never drank any water before I started my health program, as strange as that sounds.  I drank fluids, sure, but never pure water.  When I started the health program, I was absolutely stunned to find out the benefits of drinking pure water.  Here are just a few:
  • Flushes fat and toxins from your body;
  • Regulates body temperature;
  • Transports nutrients and oxygen to cells;
  • Helps with metabolism;
  • Protects and moisturizes your joints; and
  • Moisturizes the oxygen in your lungs.

*TIP: Add water to your day by drinking 16 ounces of water with every meal and snack.

Without enough water, you may experience:
  • Tiredness;
  • Migraines;
  • Constipation;
  • Muscle cramps;
  • Irregular blood pressure;
  • Kidney problems;
  • Dry skin; and
  • Risk of death (if you are 20% dehydrated).
Without question, water is very important.  August is one of the hotest (or the hotest) months of the year, so water is all the more important this month.  So, drink up!
